The words of wisdom “a blank landscape to be molded” echoed throughout the packed conference room as many took to their seats to witness what could be considered one of the most extraordinary transformations. Symbios Consulting Group (SCG), led by the revolutionary Shereen Amin, took on the carpeting company ‘Oriental Weavers’ in April of 2019 in order to transform their tactical process. Having infiltrated both the practical and managerial aspects of the company, SCG has regulated a process 50% more efficient in the manufacturing and delivery operation within only a year and a half, thus celebrating the Lean Green Belt Project in August of 2020.

Oriental Weavers is now recognized as being the world’s biggest carpeting manufacturer. Their vision of being the world’s leading manufacturing carpeting company is being slowly achieved with the aid of SCG. The Oriental Weavers production system is highly supported by all aspects of top management including the CEO of the Oriental Weavers chairman and the management team and VP of manufacturing. Significant names within the company proudly took the stage in the conference, declaring their delight with the recent developments. The training that was given by SCG was bravely taken on by all members of the company, allowing them to grow as both a community and an enterprise, as highlighted by the CEO of the company Dr. Salah. Yasmine Khamees in particular stated “Coronavirus was not a weakness, but allowed us time to learn and grow” with a smile on her face.

The coronavirus pandemic has broken the backbone of several major corporations in the past few months, causing a downsize in both performances and within the market. However, not only have Oriental Weavers managed to surpass COVID-19, they have thrived despite it. Under the advice of SCG, Oriental Weavers implemented a Japanese global system known as 20 keys that targeted the three key aspects of business, allowing them to move more products in a better, faster, and cheaper manner. With the help of SCG, the utilization of the 20 keys offered a more holistic approach to the way the business was run, allowing them to increase their overall profit score as there was more productivity within the physical manufacturing process. Specifically, this can be seen in the fact that their productivity has increased by both 10% up to 25% in the past year.

This major achievement was awarded to 20 faithful and hardworking employees who took on the Lean Green Belt project without hesitation and tirelessly advanced the company. The celebration was all around as each took a certificate of success, as a declaration of their devotion. In the near future, this award will be handed to many more as SCG continues its work with Oriental Weavers.

22 Employee from Quality Control & Assurance, Purchasing, HR, Production, Engineering and Design Department attended Green Belt Training.
Application of Green Belt practices targeted the plant units as:
• Plastic Injection; where Plastic Injection machines Inject all plastic molds for manufacturing products weights from 60 gm to 4000 gm with capacity from 60 tons to 1080 tons, 2
• Metal welding activities as CO2 welding and DC welding to ensure safety as well as reducing waste,
• The tooling workshop with its different CNC Milling, drilling machine, Lathe and grinding machines.

Green Belt Training includes a number of simulations and games that enhance understanding of lean and 6 sigma tools and practices. Moreover, the program ensures team working through explanation of Belbin Team Roles and putting some group work throughout the program. Plus it’s always beneficial to apply Value Stream Mapping and relevant simulation as the path for effective manufacturing physics.
